Daniel Robert Hollingsworth, 66 years of age, and a lifetime resident of Amherst, passed away, Saturday, January 7, 2023, at his home following a sudden illness.
He was born July 13, 1956, in Amherst, graduating from Marion L. Steele in Amherst with the class of 1974.
Dan was employed at Jack Cooper Transportation for many years as a supervisor. Dan was a licensed pilot and loved to fly, owning several planes of his own over the years. He served his community in the Civil Air Patrol service. He loved tinkering on his motorcycles and cars. He enjoyed the occasional race with his cars, and was an avid Indy 500 fan. Dan was very entrepreneurial by nature and owned his own business, developing a patented sensor to detect height limits for the auto hauling industry. A dedicated Cleveland Browns fan to the end, he always enjoyed challenging his Pittsburgh Steelers friends to a bet. He cherished his corgis, Truman and Winston.
Survivors include his children, Kaitlyn Breed (Cory) of Chagrin Falls, and William Hollingsworth of Chicago, IL; his grandchildren, Alexandra and Benjamin; his siblings, David Hollingsworth of New London and Pamela Heard of Amherst; his companion of two years, Toni George; and his former-wife and friend, Karen Hollingsworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marion Hollingsworth (nee: Young).
Friends may call Sunday, January, 15, 2023, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
