Cora Mossman Obituary

Cora Mossman passed away at New Life Hospice on April 18, 2007. She and her husband George lived in the Lorain County area and raised their family here for many years before retiring to Ocala, Florida in 1972. She held several jobs while in Ohio, including working at Ohio Screw Products, Duffin Manufacturing, Muller Packing Co., and at the cafeteria of Firelands High School. For many years, she helped coordinate the Brownhelm Santa Claus effort. It was a task that sometimes involved the whole family in packing and delivering gift bags on Christmas Eve. Cora and George were co -presidents of the Firelands Band Boosters, spearheading efforts to build the Firelands football stadium in the 1960's.

After she and her husband retired to Florida in 1972, Cora was employed at Becton-Dickinson (Bard Parker) Medical Supplies in Ocala. She loved to dance, and participated in square dance and clogging competitions, often designing and making her own costumes.

Cora's two year struggle with lung cancer left everyone who knew her filled with admiration as she methodically planned for her future. She left this world with grace and dignity, and was at peace. Cora was preceeded in death by her parents, Eldridge French and Isabelle (Miller) French, and five siblings: sisters Reneva (Tootsie) Chester, Stella Ann Russel, Bertha Knaul, Dorothy Ferguson, and brother Sheridan French. She is survived by sisters Ondie Messenger, of Marion, Ohio and Florie Mae Rice,of Tennessee, and brother Sherman (Bud) French of Ocala,Florida. Cora's husband, George Mossman, passed away in 1977, followed by her son Zane, in 1999. Daugher Pennie Niemeyer resides in Galt, California, and daughter Geneva (Genny) Dangerfield in Elyria, Ohio. She is also survived by six grandchildren, and several great and great-great- grandchildren.

A private graveside was held Monday, April 23, 2007, officiated by Rev. Brian Burke, pastor of Wellington Congregational Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice of Lorain, Ohio, or the Hospice of Marion County, Florida.
