Bruce Jara Obituary

Bruce Charles Jara, 84 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024 at New Life Hospice Center in Lorain, following a lengthy battle with Alzeimers.

He was born October 22, 1939 in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Bruce moved to the Lorain County area, “arriving with the 1978 blizzard.”   He had made his home in Amherst for many years. Bruce earned his degree in Engineering at Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Bruce proudly served in the US Army where he helped establish radio communication sights in Germany. He faithfully attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermilion since 1980. Bruce was employed as an Engineer and Quality Manager at Stein Incorporated in Sandusky. He enjoyed racing slot cars and began a league of fellow  slot car racers who held races every other Saturday. Bruce also enjoyed snow skiing which he did around the world from Brandywine in Ohio to the Alps over his lifetime. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty-two years, Lucy Elizabeth Jara (nee: Gangloff); his sons, Matthew Sarver (Tara) of Langley, Oklahoma, Carl Jara (Arielle) of  Lyndhurst, Ohio,  and Christopher Jara (Amber Cockayne) of Amherst and Carl Jara (Arielle) of Lyndhurst; his grandchildren, Eva Marie Sarver, Damien Jara, Arriana Jara and Camille Jara; his siblings, Paul Jara (Faith) of Apple Valley, Minnesota, John Jara (Ellen) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Joe Jara (Robin) of Bela Vista, Arkansas, Mike Jara (Marie) of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, Steve Jara (Claudia) of Lakeland, Minnesota and Ginny Opitz of North Platte, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie and Elizabeth in infancy, Teri Thompson; and his  parents, Emil and Ruth Jara (nee: Carlson).

Friends may call Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst.   Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3747 Liberty Ave, Vermilion, OH 44089. The Rev. Jimmy Madsen of First Lutheran Church of Lorain will officiate. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association 23215 Commerce Park Rd STE 300, Beachwood, OH 44122 or to Trinity Lutheran Church, 3747 Liberty Avenue, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
