Betty Dewan West (nee: Hammond), 83 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 4, 2023 at New Life Hospice in Lorain, following a full and blessed life.
She was born March 19, 1940 in Delta, Kentucky. Betty had made her home in Lorain for sixty-five years.
Her primary focus in life was that of a homemaker. Betty loved to make sure her family was taken care of and knew her entire family's birthdays including all of her grandchildren. She was a loving, dedicated wife to her husband Thomas of sixty-three years. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Betty was a member of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church in South Amherst. She loved quilting and cooking for her family. Betty enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes and flowers.
Survivors include her children, Lonnie W. West of Lorain, Donnie L. West of Elyria, Jonnie D. West of Lorain, Connie J. (James) Denney of Eubank, KY, and Bonnie J. (Cricket) Campbell of Science Hill, KY; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; her special friend Paulette Bolen of Burnside, Kentucky; and her sister in law Betty (Bobby) Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Thomas Wayne West on January 25, 2021; her great grandchild, Hunter Denny Wesley; her siblings, Noble Hammond, Ellen Sears and Phyllis Fields; her grandparents, Charles and Geotha Morrow; and her parents Earl and Mallie Hammond (nee: Morrow).
Friends may call Wednesday, August 9, 2023, from 6-8 p.m.. at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Jayson Samons, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
