Betty Jean Walters (nee: Slack), 85 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 at Elmcroft of Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
She was born November 15, 1935, in Amherst. Betty was a lifetime resident of Amherst, graduating from Amherst High School with the class of 1953.
She was employed as a secretary with the Amherst School System for twenty-seven years before retiring in 1994. Betty was also employed by Charlie Miller Insurance Company. She was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ where she was active with the Circle Six. Betty and Tom were active in SCOA. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 325, and was active with the Amherst Rainbow Girls. Her hobbies included bowling, traveling, and spending her winters with her husband Tom in home in Florida. Nothing brought her greater joy than role as a mother, raising her three children.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-six years, Thomas Floyd Walters; her children, Connie Blewit (Patrick) of Wakeman, Karen Norton and Michael T. Walters (Ann) both of Amherst, and; her grandchildren, Jarrod Blewitt, Ryan Blewitt, Kiel Norton (Danielle), Greg Norton (Alyshia) and Sara (Walters) Simmons (Andrew); her great grandchildren, Evangeline Norton, Emmett Norton and Hudson Norton.
She was preceded in death by her siblings. Melvin Slack, and Dorothy Slack; and her parents, Ashley and Nellie Slack (nee: Bain).
Public visitation for family and friends will be held at Hempel Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 in the evening by reservation at https://signup.com/go/pzCmuPc or by phoning the funeral home at 440-988-4451 during the business hours of 9-5. Burial will take place at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
