Betty Jean Newsome

Betty Jean Newsome (nee: Mrazik), 82 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away  Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Cleveland Clinic - Avon Hospital, following a full and meaningful life.

She was born December 29, 1938, in Aultman, Pennsylvania.  Betty had made her home in Amherst for over fifty years.

Her primary focus in life was being a homemaker.  Betty loved taking care of her family, and especially loved to bake special treats for her family and friends for Christmas.  She was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Elyria.  Betty was a proud owner of a 1932 Studebaker which she loved to drive to local car shows.

Survivors include her children,  David C. Newsome (Cindy), and Deborah Argenti both of Huron;  and her sister, Alice Kish of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her husband, of fifty-five years Charles “Chuck” Rex Newsome on November 26, 2010; and her parents, Frank and Irene Mrazik (nee: Pozik). 

Public visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021, from 12 noon until the time of service at 2 p.m.  at Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. The family is requesting that all attendees wear a mask and maintain social distancing standards.  Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. John Lutheran Church; 1140 West  River Road  North, Elyria, Ohio 44035 or to the Elyria Animal Protective League; 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
