Arnold Koepp Obituary

Arnold F. Koepp, 88 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, January 15, 2007 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky following a lengthy illness.

He was born January 5, 1919 in Amherst. He has been a resident of Amherst most of his life graduating from Amherst High School with the class of 1936.

He served with the US Navy during World War II where he received the American Theater Operation Medal; the Asian Pacific Theater of Operation Medal; the Philippine Liberation Medal, the Victory Medal; the Good Conduct Medal; and the Expert Rifleman Medal. He retired from Public Service after serving 35 ½ years with the Lorain County area and the State of Ohio as an engineer. After retiring, Arnold owned and operated his own private surveyor firm for most of his life. He also served on the Amherst Planning Commission and the Amherst City Council. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst, the Amherst American Legion Post #118, the Amherst Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1662, and the CBers of America. His hobbies included working in his garden and he enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, California, and Florida.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years Kathryn Koepp (nee: Bringman); his sons Gary Koepp of Lorain and Dale Koepp of Amherst; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his brother John Koepp of Lorain; his sister Betty Timman of Norwalk; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Clara Koepp (nee: Rust); and by her sister Doris Shick.

Friends may call Thursday, January 18, 2007, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 19, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with full military honors given by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard from the funeral home. The Rev. Terrance Adamson, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
