Ardith Ann Schlesselman Enlow

Ardith Ann Schlesselman Enlow, 71 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022 at Mercy New Life Hospice Residence Center following a lengthy illness. A resident of Vermilion most of her life, Ardith moved to Vermilion from Kelleys Island, Ohio, at age 5 when her father, Oliver, a commercial fisherman, relocated to work for Kishman Fish Co.

 

Ardith attended Vermilion Schools, graduating in 1969.  She then attended Bowling Green State University, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelors of Science in Education. While in college, she married her high school sweetheart, Harry Rising Enlow II, and gave birth to their daughter, Erica Ann.  After graduation, she taught English and journalism at Midview School, joined her husband in the photography business, then worked for Elyria Color Service.  For the past 35 years, she was an English teacher at Open Door Christian Schools, Inc. in Elyria, retiring in 2022.  While at the school, she enjoyed leading many student groups on educational tours of Europe.

 

Ardith was a member of Church of the Open Door and served for many years in children’s ministry.  She also served the City of Vermilion on the Harbourtown Design and Review Board, reviewing projects planned for the town’s historic district. 

 

Ardith is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Harry Rising Enlow II; their daughter, Erica Enlow (Daniel) Radden; granddaughters, Hannah (Brett) Resor, Julia (Tyler Dixon) Radden, Lydia Radden; two great grandchildren, Zachary and Joy Resor; her sister, Carol Schnittker; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close family friends. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Jeanne Schlessleman (nee: Reinheimer); her sister, Miriam (Bill) Haynes; and her brother, Henry (Sonya) Schlesselman.

 

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 9 am until the time of the memorial service at 12 noon, with a luncheon to follow, at the Church of the Open Door, 43275 Telegraph Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
