Alberta Jane Rice, 92 years of age, and a resident of Nova, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 12, 2021, following a full and meaningful life.
She was born October 6, 1928 in Lexington, Ohio where she was raised, graduating from Lexington High School with the class of 1945. As a young woman, Alberta moved to Lorain where she lived for many years before moving in 2005, to live with her daughter Tina. After high school Alberta went on to receive certification as a registered nurse from Mansfield General School of Nursing. Alberta was employed as a nurse at US Steel in Lorain for twenty-seven years. She was an active member of Broadway Assembly Church in Lorain where she used her love of children and the Lord to serve as a teacher in Sunday School.
Survivors include her daughters, Tina Maria Humphreys (Todd) of Nova, and Taria Barker (Mark) of Middletown, OH; her grandchildren, Ruth Siler, Rachel Tudor, and Reane Hostetler; as well as seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Kathryn Griffin, Ann Mae Long; and her parents, Nicholas and Lottie Straub (nee: Henry).
Public visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at Broadway Assembly Church 5495 Broadway Ave, Lorain, Ohio. Due to Covid-19 concerns, we ask that those attending wear a mask and maintain social distances. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at http://www.hempelfuneralhome.com/ . The Rev. Matt Jones, pastor of Broadway Assembly, will officiate. Burial will take place on Friday, on 11 am at Mansfield Cemetery, in Mansfield, Ohio.
