Henry Gene Dutton, 89 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Elms Nursing Home in Wellington, following a full and meaningful life.
He was born March 14, 1935 in Johnson County, Kentucky. Henry had lived in Elyria before moving to Amherst where he had made his home for the last fifty-nine years.
He was employed as a millwright in Elyria Foundry and also worked as a construction mechanic at TJ Hume. Henry was a talented musician, and could play any stringed instrument, including the banjo and mandolin. He loved playing all music, especially bluegrass and gospel. Henry’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Yvonne Dodson of Amherst, Henry Gene Dutton Jr. (Donna) and Rebecca Unangst (Karl) both of Wellington; his grandchildren, Janelle, Micayla, Kristi, Henry III, Emily, Benjamin and Kaitlyn; nine great grandchildren; and his brother, Mitchel Dutton of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Ruth Lee Dutton (nee: Pilkins) on June 30, 2021; his siblings, Louise Melvin, Paul, Palmer, BJ and Walter; and his parents, Willie and Emma Dutton (nee:Ward).
Friends may call Monday, April 29, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
