Emma Kennelley (nee: Mecera), 97 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday March 31, 2024 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain, following a full and meaningful life.
She was born May 20, 1926, in Amherst, Ohio. Emma was raised in Lorain, graduating from Clearview High School. She had made her home for most of her life in Amherst.
Emma proudly served as Rosie the Riveter during World War II, helping cover the manpower shortage at the US. Steel in Lorain. Emma was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst and a former member of Holy Trinity in Lorain.
Survivors include her stepchild, Kim (Kelly) Morrow of Amherst; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; her nieces and nephews, Rhadine (Mark) Zabrecky of Amherst and Mary Ellen (Brian) Lukach, Gust (Ann Marie) Mecera, William (Mary) Mecera, John Mecera and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles W. Knick, her second husband Charles G. Kennelley; her brothers Adolph Mecera, Gust Mecera, William Mecera and Joseph Mecera; and her parents, Gust and Emma Mecera (nee: Zieba).
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Church, 200 Saint Joseph Drive Amherst ,OH, 44001 or Amherst Office on Aging, 621 Cleveland Ave, Amherst, OH 44001.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Timothy O'Connor will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
