Debra Diane Standen (nee: Omler), 59 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018, at her home surrounded by those she loved.
Debby was born May 5, 1959 in Amherst. Raised in Amherst, she graduated from Marion L. Steele High School with the class of 1977. She was a licensed beautician graduated from Lorain Institute of Cosmetology. She had made her home in Vermilion for the last twenty-five years.
Debby was employed as a teachers aid at Firelands High School for twenty-two years where she loved impacting the lives others. She was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church and the Brownhelm Historical Assn. Christmas time was a favorite time of the year and making ginger bread houses with her grandchildren and preparing community baskets for distribution by Santa were a large part of the season traditions. Favorite pastimes included sewing, cooking, tea parties, and burying her toes in the white sandy beaches of Panama City, Fl.
Survivors include her loving husband of forty-one years Scott Standen; her daughter Kristin Mulica (Donald II) of Amherst; her grandchildren Cameron, Ava, and Emerson; her father Donald Omler, Sr. of Amherst; her brother Donald "Rock" Omler, Jr. (Marivi) of New Jersey; and her sister Melissa Morrow (Randy) of Amherst.
She was preceded in death by her mother Norma Omler (nee: Tharp) on June 15, 2017.
Friends may call Monday, November 5, 2018, from 5-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Birmingham United Methodist Church; 15018 South Street, Birmingham. The Rev. Richard Kretchmar, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Rugby Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
