Dorothy May Bowsher (nee: Greer), 83 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
Dorothy was born February 17, 1929 in Alton, Illinois before moving to Elyria. In 1951, she moved to South Amherst which has been her home since.
Dorothy worked for 25 years as a clerk for DeLuca Bakery which became Avonti Bakery from which she retired in 1989. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oberlin, a member of the Carlisle Grange, and served as a Girl Scout Leader and 4H advisor. She enjoyed the activities at the Oberlin Senior Center and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include her son David Bowsher of South Amherst; her daughters June Wood of Wellington and Leslie Myers of South Amherst; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; and her sister Doris Slack formerly of South Amherst; many nieces and nephews, especially by her nephew John Slack and niece Betty Dunn.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years Leslie E. Bowsher in 2003; her brother Warren Greer; and her parents Jack and Ethel Greer (nee: Potter).
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 5 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, Ohio. The Rev. Brian Kenyon, pastor of Calvary Baptist will officiate. Burial will be Friday at 10 am at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Twp.
