William John Kunzman

U.S. Veteran

William John Kunzman,91 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Amherst Specialty Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born November 23, 1920 in Remchingen, Germany. In 1926, William came to America and had made his home in Amherst for the last eighty-six years. He graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1938.

William proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. During his service in the Rome-Arno, Southern France, Ardennes and Central Europe, he received the Purple Heart Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four bronze Service Stars. William was employed as a machinist at Ridge Tool before retiring after many years of service. He is one of the founding members of Family Fellowship Foursquare Church in Amherst and helped build the original facility that was located on Cleveland Avenue. His hobbies include snow skiing, hunting, fishing, traveling and gardening. William's greatest joy was spending time at church and with his family.

Survivors include his wife of seventy years Irene Kunzman (nee: Howard); his son William James Kunzman and his wife Linda of Clearwater, Florida; his grandson Air Force Sgt. Eric Kunzman and his wife Crystal and their son Christian.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Freda Bach, Sue Thomas; and his parents Albert and Eva Kunzman.

Friends may call Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Family Fellowship Foursquare Church; 780 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. The Rev. Myrtle Epler, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Family Fellowship Foursquare Church; 780 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, OH 44001.
