Frank D Newbraugh

U.S. Veteran

Frank D. Newbraugh, 81 years of age, and a resident of Sheffield Township, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012 at his home following a sudden illness.

He was born July 19, 1930 in Morgantown, West Virginia. Frank was raised in Grafton, West Virginia. He had made his home in Lorain for sixty years.

Frank served in the United States Army. He was employed as a crane operator for US Steel in Lorain for thirty-two years. Frank was also employed through the Clearview School Systems for twenty-one years. He was a member of Grace Community Church in Grafton. Frank was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for fifty years, serving as a Scout Master for twenty-five years for troops #318 and #307 in Lorain. During his service he was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver Award and the Wood Badge Award and was a member of the Order of the Arrow Vigil. His hobbies included gardening, and feeding the birds and squirrels. Frank loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years Betty Newbraugh (nee: Stemple); his sons Ronald Newbraugh and his wife Rose of Elyria, Keith Newbraugh of Louisville, Kentucky, David Newbraugh, Sr. and his wife Shannon of Richlands, Virginia, Bill Newman of Lorain; his daughters and their husbands Linda and Steve Fleming, Judy and James Ondeka all of Lorain, Patsy and Richard Pedraza of Elyria; nineteen grandchildren, and thirty-two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Steve Newbraugh on July 21, 2006; his infant daughter Carolyn; one granddaughter and four great grandchildren; his brothers Lonnie and Carl; his sister Betty McCartney and his parents Lonnie and Lelia Newbraugh (nee: Motter).

Friends may call Thursday, July 12, 2012 from 6-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Ed Wishart, pastor of Grace Community Church in Grafton, will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon.
