Martha Simashkevich

Martha Simashkevich (nee: Syrowski), a lifelong resident of Amherst, born March 13,1930, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the age of 82.

Martha attended St. Joseph School through the 8th grade and graduated from Central High School in Amherst.

She was employed as a route mother for nine years for the Lorain Morning Journal. She was also employed at the Amherst School System for thirteen years. In her spare time, Martha volunteered for several years at Lorain Community Hospital, now Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain. After her retirement, she enjoyed reading, going on bus trips and crocheting afghans.

She is survived by her seven children James and Pat Simashkevich of Amherst, Deborah and Franklin Miller of Wellington, Cynthia and Robert Keith of Canton, Michigan, Frank and Marlene Simashkevich of Amherst, Richard and Barbara Simashkevich of Seattle, Washington, Ellen and Dewey Hembree of Amherst Township and Mark Simashkevich of Amherst with whom she lived. Also surviving are her ten grandchildren Brian and Anna Simashkevich of Sandusky, Andrew and Melissa Simashkevich, Elizabeth and Chris Lisy all of Westerville, Diane and Sean Gerring of Medina, Laura and Justin Bruner, Robert and Lisa Keith-Kaput, and Matthew Keith all of Michigan; Jason Simashkevich of Arizona, Kevin Simashkevich of the US Army, and Macy Hembree of Amherst Township; two great grandchildren Kayla and Evan Simashkevich of Westerville.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Simashkevich; infant daughter Franceen Mary; and her parents Frank and Frances Syrowski.

Friends may call Friday, June 29, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing Prayers will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to DAV Louis Paul Proy #20; 10009 Angling Road, Wakeman, OH 44889.
