Mary E. Richter (nee: Carstensen), 95 years of age, and a resident of Elyria, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Keystone Pointe Health and Rehabilitation in LaGrange.
She was born June 27, 1916 in Lorain Ohio, and graduated from Lorain High School in the class of 1935. Elyria has been her home for the last 48 years.
Mary was employed in the produce department at the former A&P Supermarket for twenty-five years before retiring in 1978. She was a former member of First United Congregational Church in South Amherst. Mary loved to travel and enjoyed listening to music. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son and his wife Allen and Nancy Richter of Maitland, Florida; her daughter and her husband Dianne and John Schultz of Sandusky; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; fifteen great great grandchildren; one great great great grandchild; brother and his wife Jack and Beverly Carstensen of Norwalk and her longtime childhood friend Kathy Zeollo of Grafton, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years Emery Carl Richter on March 20, 1995; infant son David Richter; infant daughter Linda; brother Richard E. Carstensen and her parents Delton C. and Mabel Ellen Carstensen (nee: Gott).
Friends may call Monday, May 21, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Mark Carstensen, her nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
